Rumble Roller

Rumble Roller

Rumble Roller? What the heck is that? Is it a torture device? These were some of the questions going through my head when I saw what came with the P90X2 kit. I had no idea what a Rumble Roller actually was and did I even want one. Well, let me tell you, it’s now become one of my best friends. My husband uses it almost every day too.Rumble Roller

What Is A Rumble Roller?

A Rumble Roller is a round foam roller that comes in different lengths with bumps on it. You can get them without the bumps, just called a foam roller, but the bumps are more helpful. The bumps on a Rumble Roller are firm but still flexible and act like the thumbs of a massage therapist.

Why Do You Need A Rumble Roller?

Trigger points are knots in the muscle tissue that can develop over time. Muscle cells – like every other cell in the body – take in nutrients and oxygen and release waste and toxins. When a trigger point develops, the muscle in that area gets so tight that no blood will flow through it to provide nutrients or remove waste. Also, since the muscle gets so tight and knotted in these trigger points, the rest of the muscle gets pulled tight causing pain and muscle tension. This generally leads to fatigue and headaches. You’ve probably gotten tightness in your neck and shoulders if you’ve spent any time sitting at a desk working on the computer. I know that I get them when I have my computer on the kitchen table and my arms are too high while I’m typing. You can also get these knots throughout the rest of your body, but not necessarily realize it.

Therefore, these knots must be manually broken down to provide blood flow to the area and allow these processes to take place. To make the process even more difficult, the muscles have a sort of memory so that even if you break down a knot once, it will usually come right back. You did not develop these knots over night so you won’t get rid of them that quickly either. The trigger points must be broken down repeatedly in order to retrain the muscle.

What Do You Do With A Rumble Roller?

A well-trained massage therapist is good at breaking up these trigger points, but you can’t have one work on you every day, and just trying to stretch out the muscles won’t make the knots go away. Enter the Rumble Roller. Basically the Rumble Roller acts as a massage therapist and gives you myofascial release. Myofascial release is simply the process of putting pressure on a muscle to promote blood flow.

The flat foam rollers compress the soft tissue which promotes blood flow, but doesn’t necessarily get rid of those knots that build up over time. The bumps on the Rumble Roller gently knead the muscles and stretch the soft tissue, by pinpointing pressure on the muscle knots to break them up, thus releasing the trigger points.

To use the Rumble Roller, you slowly roll on it until you find those knots, then you don’t move, you stay there on the knot until it releases. This will relieve the muscle pain, stretch the muscle and restore flexibility. You control the amount of pressure by lifting your body up slightly for less pressure, or using the weight of your body for added pressure to go deeper into the muscle. You can use the Rumble Roller on your entire body: arms, legs, back, butt, shoulders – everywhere.

When you first start using it, you may feel as if you have no idea what you’re doing, that’s how I felt, but as I continued to use it I was able to find those knots and feel when they released. You will really feel good after using the Rumble Roller, and you’ll find that you’re more flexible.

Why Invest In A Rumble Roller?

So, if you’ve paid for a massage you’ve spent anywhere from $40 up for an hour massage. My husband used to go to massage envy, which they have all over the country. With his discount that he gets by being a city employee, he was spending $54 for an hour massage once a month. If he wanted more than one per month, then he would pay $35 for any additional massages. This isn’t including tipping the therapist. So, the price of the Rumble Roller isn’t looking too bad now, is it?

You can get a 12 inch Rumble Roller OR a 31 inch Rumble Roller.

I would suggest the 31 inch so you can roll out those shoulder knots more easily. These rollers are light weight and easily transportable too, so you can take them on a trip in the car, or some people take them in their luggage when they fly.

Buying a rumble roller will save you time and money in the long run. For the price of the 31 inch Rumble Roller, you wouldn’t even get two massages. Then you have to schedule your massage and spend the gas to drive to and from the massage, then the time waiting for your appointment. Having a Rumble Roller in your house means you can use it while you watch TV or a movie at your convenience. That’s a major advantage in my mind.

So, save yourself some time and money, and just hop on a Rumble Roller to relieve that muscle pain, smooth out those knotted muscles and start feeling better now.
