Beachbody Ultimate Reset: Day 2

This is a guest post by my editor and husband who did Beachbody’s Ultimate Reset.

Thursday, Day 2 of the Beachbody Ultimate Reset began just as Day 1 had, except that I couldn’t help wondering if it would end the same way too. Breakfast was one cup of the cooked oatmeal along with a cup of blueberries and a half cup of yogurt. It definitely filled me up.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset: Day 2, Thursday

I was back at work again with my green lunch bag containing a salad with grilled chicken breast and roasted pine nuts, and a serving of dressing. I also had a green apple and almonds which I had brought for a snack the day before and had not been able to eat. I had my Beachbody Ultimate Reset caddy full of goodies too. I followed the same schedule as Wednesday, but luckily the headache never materialized. And now I had no excuses; it was time to face the Alkalinizer. I had heard that it mixes better if you shake it, but I had nothing to shake it in so I stirred it up with a spoon. It showed some reluctance to being stirred; a few little clumps withstood all the stirring I could handle. It was time to let the moment happen, and it did.

What in the world are you people thinking? You really had me worried. It wasn’t that bad! I wouldn’t expect to order one from Tom Cruz in Aruba or Jamaica, but there was no gagging! There was no retching! There was no nose holding! It was a little grassy, but no problemo. I even used the spoon to grab the little clumps that tried to avoid me. Victory! Siri just yawned. Now that it was over I had more important things to worry about: Snack Time!

Let’s talk about green apples. The Ultimate Reset includes them because they have less sugar than the apples we are used to eating. And don’t look for any big words from me; I don’t even know how to spell low-glycemic. I don’t know if I have ever eaten a Granny Smith apple outside of an apple pie before. At snack time I decided I needed something to get me through to dinner since it was going to be a little later than usual. Remember that the snack, in the Ultimate Reset, is optional and they say only to eat it if you really need to. The green apple was great, and it really went well with the almonds. Maybe it is due to the fact that I cut out all processed sugar from my diet so I don’t need things to be as sweet as I used to. Keep an open mind about all the food in the Ultimate Reset.

I had finally reached the best time in the day in any job; time to leave. I took my pre-dinner supplements and headed home to pick up my lovely wife for a night out. I felt a little guilty about this, but I ordered Salmon, asparagus, and black beans and rice. It was almost exactly the same as the scheduled meal anyway (after I scraped off the sweet sauce they smeared on the salmon). Remember I was actually eating the Ultimate Reset Day 1 meal. The restaurant didn’t serve distilled water, but at least I avoided the Mojitos.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset: Day 3, Friday

By Day 3 I started getting used to the routine of the Ultimate Reset. The supplements are the same each day of the first week and are no problem as long as you keep your schedule. Siri was very excited to help me with that. Did I mention that I love my iPhone? I’m not going to give you a meal by meal account of the rest of the week, but I do want to talk about a few of the recipes.

Remember that there are some meal items that repeat. The Day 3 Dinner and Day 4 lunch include Nori Rolls. These are like California rolls that you may have had at a sushi restaurant, but with a lot more adventure. I have eaten plenty of sushi rolls but never made any. Since my wife was eating with me, I immediately had a second chance to redeem my first utter failure. The first roll I attempted had too much rice, I didn’t roll it tight enough, and my knife wasn’t sharp enough. Now that’s a recipe for disaster.

My first attempt of the Ultimate Reset nori roll looked alright after I rolled it, but when I cut it into pieces it all fell apart and looked like sushi casserole. For my second attempt I put less rice on the Nori sheet (especially on the side you roll towards), I rolled it tighter, and sharpened my knife. It really looked good. I realized at this point that the sushi I normally eat has rice on the outside as well as inside the seaweed. You won’t be able to get the brown rice to stick to the outside of this roll. Unfortunately, with the Seaweed on the outside it tastes a little fishy to me. I’m not saying it was bad. I had no problem eating it. You decide.

I have made stir-fry before, but obviously I have always overcooked it. I watched Melissa Costello’s stir-fry video and followed the directions closely and mine came out great. The vegetables were slightly crispy and very tasty. Make sure you watch the videos of Melissa cooking all of the recipes, especially if you have tried something before and didn’t really care for it. Take this opportunity to try lots of new things, or to re-try them. You can find all the cooking videos in the Ultimate Reset participant portal.

I have had Miso Soup many times with my sushi, but have never made it. It was much harder finding the Miso paste than it was cooking the soup. Cucumber and Tomato Salad is super easy to make. Quinoa is a staple in our house and I like it best as a Quinoa salad. I had never had Tempeh before and it was tasty. I failed to follow the directions the first time and it came out dry. I marinated it over night, but then I didn’t cook it in the marinade. I followed the recipe the second time, and it was much better.

Before I knew it, a week had gone by; it was Tuesday night and I was down 10.2 pounds. The last time I weighed 141.8 pounds Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd were Trading Places. It all came from around the middle. You are not supposed to exercise, so I didn’t – it wasn’t much of a struggle, but some people really missed it. I never felt like I was starving. On the contrary, most of the time I was pretty full. Other than the headache on the first day, I never had another problem. Other people complained of lower back and kidney pain and headaches, but these things came and went. The common answer was to drink more water.

So step outside of your comfort zone. Follow the plan that the Ultimate Reset has laid out for you, and you will lose weight and feel great! But will you learn something about how to stay that way? That’s up to you. Good luck!
