How To Gain More Energy

how to gain more energyAre you tired of feeling tired all the time? Have you been trying to figure out how to gain more energy, but just don’t know what to do?

I think most if not all of us would love to have more energy like when we were kids, but think that we’re over the hill and that’s not going to be possible. Well, I’m here to tell you that it is possible. You just have to take some action steps, one at a time, and you will slowly start to feel better and better. You’ll be amazed at not only how much better you feel, but how this isn’t as hard as you think.

I’ve got 3 tips for you to start boosting your energy.

#1 Lose the refined sugar

I know you’ve probably heard this one before, but it really is robbing you of more than just your energy.

  • Sugar causes stress on the liver. When there’s too much to process you get a fatty liver which means the liver has a hard time detoxifying your body
  • It causes metabolic syndrome, which means you have a series of issues like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and unhealthy abdominal fat. All of these issues can lead to bigger problems like heart attacks, stroke, and diabetes.
  • Too much sugar can lead to Leptin resistence, which means that you might have trouble losing weight, trouble sleeping, or have issues with depression. Leptin is the hormone that controls hunger and feeling satiated.
  • Sugar feeds cancer
  • Sugar raises your trigliycerides and lowers your good cholesterol
  • Sugar suppresses the immune system. (I totally notice this myself!!!)
  • Sugar can cause a decline in tissue elasticity
  • Sugar causes your body to be acidic which leads to disease, and cancer likes sugar and acidic environments
  • Sugar causes volatility in your system, which prompts the release of cortisol ~ the stress hormone
  • The more sugar you eat the less healthy food you are likely to eat and thus a vicious cycle starts and doesn’t end

Number one is a little long ~ but hopefully you see how importance it is to your health to get off sugar if you’re eating too much of it.  How much is too much? And are we never supposed to eat refined sugar?

Some people never do eat it. I opt to stay away from it as best I can, but I do make sweet treats with maple syrup, honey, and date paste. While these are still sugars, they do have nutritional value, where refined sugar does not. And I’ve personally noticed that I don’t have that sluggish yucky feeling after eating natural sugars as I do after eating refined sugar. That said you can’t eat all you want, you still have to monitor your intake.

But Risa HOW do I get off the sugar high that I’m on? I’m craving it all the time!!!

Start to become aware of where sugar is lurking in your food by reading the ingredient list. I’ll write another blog post about that!

#2 Eat more veggies especially greens

Greens have phytonutrients and antioxidants plus have super dense nutrition.

  • Greens are filled with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals
  • You really can’t over eat greens
  • They have super dense nutrition and help boost your immune system
  • They’re anti-inflammatory

Just make sure that you mix them all up. I find myself eating the same ones over and over. Kale kale kale, and have to remind myself to switch it up. It’s really important to eat a variety so that you get all the different nutrients that each vegetable has with them. They all have a unique set of nutrients, so don’t just get stuck eating romaine lettuce, eat other types and varieties.

#3 Hydrate

Every cell in your body and every organ needs water to perform it’s job properly.

“Water is the vehicle for every nutrient, hormone, chemical messenger, enzyme, electrolyte, and brain pulse.” ~ Darien Olien from his book Super Life

Water is what makes our immune system function, help control our body temperature, and helps our brain and nervous system function properly. Because we don’t store water like we do fat, we need to make sure that we drink enough of it.

When you’re not hydrated properly

  • you’ll feel tired
  • you may have a headache
  • your kidneys can’t regulate your blood pressure properly
  • your cells can’t eliminate debris
  • this can cause your immune system to be suppressed
  • you can have depression
  • you can have digestive distress

Just by changing a few little things in your life you can have added energy.
